About Us - Terrorism Observer

Terrorism Observer is a non-profit, research-led collective of regional security analysts and researchers. Its mission is to inform and enhance public knowledge on diverse security affairs, with a specialised focus on non-state political violence. Terrorism Observer also aims to produce independent and timely analyses to inform both public and policy.

The Team

Dr. Zul holds a Master Degree in Defence Studies from King’s College, London and a PhD from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). His area of research is on religious fundamentalism, terrorism, and political violence. He has published several articles in academic journals on religious fundamentalism and political violence as well as presented papers at international conferences and workshops on these matters. He is also a member of Against Violent Extremism (AVE), a London-based NGO focusing on countering extremism and rehabilitation of former terrorists. Besides lecturing on ISIS to various military institutions and universities, he has also published several articles on countering ISIS narratives. He is an alumnus of George C. Marshall Centre, European Centre for Security Studies.

Subha earned his Master degree from the National Defense University, Washington D.C and is an alumnus of the College of International Security Affairs (CISA) in Washington, D.C. He is experienced in analysis and intelligence tradecraft.

Izanny holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She is also an alumnus of National Defense University, College of International Security Affairs (CISA) in Washington, D.C. She is experienced in psychological operations and has trained with international organisations such as the U.N.

Elle Afiza is a graduate from University Malaya with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a Master degree in Strategic and Defence Studies.
